INTERESTING HONEY FACTS YOU SHOULD KNOW

 Interesting and Fun Honey Facts

Basic Honey Information

1. Only honey is produced by an insect and consumed by both the insect and people.

2. Nectar and a bee enzyme are combined to create honey, which is then fermented after being kept in honey combs.

3. To visit approximately 2 million blooms and generate one pound of honey, foraging bees must fly about 55,000 miles.

4. Aphid secretions are used to make honeydew honey, which is referred to as sort of "aphid poop" by honey bees.

5. Flowers pollen grains can also be found in natural honey. 'Melissopalynology' is the scientific study of pollen in honey.

6. Honey can be stored in a jar indefinitely.  It can, however, crystallize in response to cold temperatures.

7. Honey is a wax-capped form of nectar that honeybees store as sustenance to get them through the winter.  Humans buy honey, which beekeepers collect from their food storage and package in jars.

8. Honey has powerful antibacterial and antiseptic properties. In fact, honey is effective against MRSA, or methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, according to a peer-reviewed, published article.  MRSA is typically challenging to treat.

9. Due to the possibility of newborn botulism, honey is not considered to be safe for infants.  People with diabetes should avoid it.

10. Since cats lack the necessary taste receptors, they are unable to taste honey

In her lifespan, a honey bee worker only produces 1/12 of a teaspoon on average. A bee could fly around the world on one ounce of honey. A pound of honey is produced by 2 million visits to flowers. To bring that honey, the bees travel 55,000 miles back and forth.

Bees take floral nectar to make honey, which is then converted into simple sugars and stored inside the honeycomb. As a result of the honeycomb's structure and the bees' continual wing fanning, sweet liquid honey is produced via evaporation. The nectar that the bees collect influences the color and flavor of the honey.

Interesting fact: Every kind of bee that produces honey also consumes it. It provides them with energy and is stocked with the nutrients they require to stay healthy.
